At Scalby Academy students have 25 lessons per week of one hour each as well as Mentor times. The compulsory school day starts at 08.25 and ends at 14.30. This time runs from the official start of the school day (period 1) to the official end of the compulsory school day. It includes breaks, but not optional after school activities. At 08.20 bell rings to warn students that they should be present on site and in readiness for period 1 at 08.25. A student who arrives in class after the second bell at 08.25 is marked late and will receive a one hour detention. Students should not arrive on site too early since staff supervision duties do not begin until 08.05.
